Do you want to learn how to make a queimada and how to recite a conxuro? Experience this ritual in Santiago de Compostela and enter the world of the Galician meigas.
Description
With origins shrouded in mystery, some attribute queimada's inception to Celtic times in Galicia, while others trace it to the Middle Ages. This alcoholic beverage has been traditionally used for dispelling curses and warding off evil spirits.
Immerse yourself in Galician culture! We'll meet at the Plaza de San Martiño at the indicated time. From there, we'll head to the bar where the ceremony will begin.
We'll gather around a table with a large mud pot in the center, guided by a meigagallega, a local witch, who will explain how to make the queimada.
Water, earth, and fire, the three most significant elements of nature, will be involved in the drink's preparation. The meiga will recite the incantation, known as the conxuro da queimada, invoking good fortune just before tasting the drink.
After the ritual, we'll taste the freshly prepared queimada.
