Embark on a wine journey through Rías Baixas while visiting Santiago de Compostela. This experience includes an intriguing visit to an Albariño vineyard, discover the charm of the island of La Toja with a mussel tasting, and enjoy the picturesque towns of Combarro and Cambados, culminating in a relaxing time at La Lanzada beach.
Tour Overview
Prepare for an unforgettable exploration! We will gather at the Capilla del Pilar in Santiago de Compostela at the specified time. Once we have everyone together, a bus will transport us to the exciting Rías Baixas region.
Our first destination will be Cambados, recognized as the capital of Albariño wine. Upon arrival, a guided tour will lead us through the historic center of Fefiñáns, which boasts the largest concentration of wineries in the region of Galicia.
Following this, we will venture around Cambados to visit the "Kilometer 0" site of Albariño production. Here, participants will have the chance to explore either Adega Eidos or Lagar da Cachada through a 1-hour guided tour of the vineyards and winemaking facilities. You’ll gain insights about the intricate process involved in creating this esteemed wine, finishing with an engaging wine tasting session.
Next on our agenda is La Lanzada, situated at the farthest point of the Salnés peninsula. As we contemplate the ruins of a 10th-century fortress, we will learn about its history as a lookout against Viking threats. A visit to the chapel of Nuestra Señora de la Lanzada, one of the most celebrated chapels in Galicia, is also included.
From La Lanzada, we will sail to the island of La Toja, renowned for its spa culture. Here, you will discover the healing attributes of the island’s thermal waters and visit the striking chapel of the shells, which is embellished entirely with scallop shells.
At a quaint dock on La Toja, we will board a boat to view the famous bateas—platforms used for growing oysters, scallops, and mussels. As the boat trip concludes, enjoy a delicious mussel tasting paired with local fruity wine.
Traveling back to land, we will proceed to Combarro, where you can wander through its enchanting old town filled with hórreos, traditional structures unique to Galicia and Asturias. Did you know this village is where the famous Galician octopus dish originates? You will also have free time to indulge in local cuisine at one of its delightful restaurants.
Our 10-hour journey will culminate with our return to Santiago de Compostela.
Option without Boat Trip
When making your reservation, you have the option to choose a version of the tour that excludes the boat trip and mussel tasting at La Toja. If you select this choice, you will have ample time to explore and dine in the vicinity instead.
