Embark on a captivating journey through Ribeira Sacra and Ourense, where you will uncover historic monasteries, stunning Sil River canyons, and breathtaking viewpoints. This adventure promises to be memorable!
Ribeira Sacra & Ourense Exploration
Your adventure begins at the appointed time as we travel north into the heart of the Ribeira Sacra. The region derives its name from the Middle Ages, characterized by a scattering of several monasteries atop the steep terrains. The term "Sacred Riverbank" reflects the spiritual significance of the area during that historic period.
Upon arrival, we will embark on a catamaran cruise across the stunning canyons of the River Sil. For an hour and a half, immerse yourself in the region's unique landscape, featuring towering cliffs that soar nearly 500 meters high.
After disembarking from the catamaran, our exploration continues at one of the prominent viewpoints in Ribeira Sacra. Following our scenic stop, we will proceed to the Monastery of San Pedro de Rocas, an architectural gem that stands as an emblem of the area. According to tradition, this monastery was established by hermitic figures in the 6th century.
Following our experience at the monastery, we will make our way to Orense, recognized as the thermal capital of Galicia. Here, you will have some free time to enjoy lunch and, if you wish, to explore the Cathedral. In the afternoon, we will delve into the historic district to discover the reasons behind its nickname, the 'City of Bridges.
Your day will conclude with a return to the original meeting point, typically between eight and ten hours after the start of our journey.
