Description

Meet your guide in Calle Tras Salomé and head to Plaza del Obradoiro for a guided tour of the Museum of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Explore the Romanesque remains of the Cathedral and learn about its history dating back to the 9th century when the remains of St. James the Elder were discovered. The Camino de Santiago played a crucial role in its popularity.

Discover hidden gems along the Jacobean route and admire the art collections in the Museo de la Catedral. Learn about the Codex Calixtinus, a valuable manuscript that was once the target of a theft attempt.

Continue with a guided tour of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, including a visit to the renowned Chapel of La Corticela. Experience traditions like hugging the St. James sculpture and witnessing the 'botafumeiro' swing, originally used to spread incense to mask odors from pilgrims.

The tour concludes at Plaza del Obradoiro, near the west façade of the Cathedral.

Changes to the route

Until further notice, hugging the statue of St. James is not permitted. On weekend afternoons, the tour order will be reversed, starting with the cathedral's interior before visiting the museum.
