On this excursion to La Gran Piedra from Santiago de Cuba, we will explore a massive volcanic rock located in southern Cuba.

La Gran Piedra Excursion

Pick-up from your accommodation in Santiago de Cuba will be at 9 am. After a one-hour bus ride, we will arrive at the Sierra Maestra mountain range, home to La Gran Piedra.

This volcanic rock measures 51 meters (167 feet) long and 30 meters (98 feet) wide, weighing over 60,000 tons. We will ascend the 452 steps to the top, reaching a viewpoint at 1,225 meters (over 4,000 feet) above sea level.

After descending to the base, we will continue the excursion at the La Isabelica coffee plantation, where we will tour the hacienda and its museum, recognized as a World Heritage Site. Here, we will learn about the history of French-Haitian emigration and its impact on agriculture in southern Cuba.

We will then have a Creole-style lunch at the local restaurant Terrazas La Caridad, followed by a traditional coffee ritual.

Finally, we will return to your accommodation in Santiago de Cuba, with an expected arrival time of 3 pm.
