La Gran Piedra Excursion
Pickup is at your accommodation in Santiago de Cuba at 9 am. After an hour-long bus ride, we will arrive at the Sierra Maestra mountain range, home to La Gran Piedra.
This colossal volcanic rock measures 51 meters (167 feet) long and 30 meters (98 feet) wide, weighing over 60,000 tons. We will walk up 452 steps to reach the viewpoint at 1,225 meters (over 4,000 feet) above sea level.
After descending, we will visit the coffee plantation of La Isabelica, touring the hacienda and its museum, recognized as a World Heritage Site. We will learn about the history of French-Haitian emigration and its impact on agriculture in this region.
Next, we will stop at the local restaurant Terrazas La Caridad for a Creole-style lunch, followed by a traditional coffee ritual.
Finally, we will return to your accommodation in Santiago de Cuba, with an expected arrival at 3 pm.
