Explore the historic Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and hike up Huayna Picchu Mountain on this day trip from Cusco.

Tour Details

On the day of your tour, hotel pickup in Cusco will be between 4 and 4:30 am. We will travel to Ollantaytambo to catch a train to Aguas Calientes, a journey of approximately 1.5 hours through the Peruvian Andes.

Arriving at Aguas Calientes around 7:40 am, we will take a bus to the entrance of Machu Picchu. You will have 4 hours to hike Huayna Picchu and enjoy the views from its peak at 2,500 meters. Following the hike, a 3-hour guided tour of the lower section of the archaeological site will be conducted. Then, we'll return to Aguas Calientes for almost five hours of free time to explore the town.

In the evening, we will catch the train back to Ollantaytambo and return to Cusco, completing this 19-hour tour.

Panoramic Train

The excursion includes travel on a tourist class train (Expedition or Voyager train).

Hotel Pickup

Pickup occurs between 4 and 4:30 am from hotels in Cusco’s historic centre. If your hotel is outside the centre, we will meet at the Cathedral's entrance in Plaza de Armas.

Stations & Duration

Trains depart from either Poroy station (30 minutes from Cusco) or Ollantaytambo station (1 hour and 30 minutes from Cusco), depending on availability. The Poroy station is closed during the rainy season (December to March), requiring bus travel to Ollantaytambo. Train duration varies, taking roughly 4 hours from Poroy or 1 hour and 30 minutes from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes.

Important

If the tour is canceled due to strikes or weather, an alternative date will be offered. If rescheduling fails, a full refund will be provided, excluding the non-cancellable entrance fee to Machu Picchu (approximately 200 PEN).

For accessing the cover photo platform, an entrance fee of 60 USD per person for Route 1 applies, and hiring a guide is optional.
