In this free tour of Santiago, we'll walk through the centre of the Chilean capital and see the Changing of the Presidential Guard at La Moneda Palace.
Description
We'll meet at the Plaza de Armas to begin this free tour of Santiago. The first stop will be the presidential seat of the Republic of Chile, where we will watch the changing of the guard of the carabineros of La Moneda Palace. This event has taken place since 1851, after which we will learn about the history of La Moneda, including its colonial era origins, the coup d'état of 1973, and the death of President Salvador Allende.
We will continue the tour by passing sites like the Palacio de los Tribunales de Justicia and the former National Congress, which was closed in 1973 by Augusto Pinochet's military government. Near Plaza de Armas, we will explore the city’s Inca past and admire the Cathedral's exterior while uncovering its history.
After a tour of approximately 2 hours, we will conclude at the starting point, next to the equestrian statue of Pedro de Valdivia.
Changing of the Guard
Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, the changing of the guard does not take place outside of La Moneda Palace.
