Description
We will meet at Plaza de Armas to begin this free tour of Santiago. We will first visit the presidential seat of the Republic of Chile, stopping at the main facade to observe the changing of the guard of the carabineros of La Moneda Palace.
After the changing of the guard, we'll remain in front of La Moneda to discuss its history, including its roots in the colonial era and events such as the coup d'état of 1973 and the death of Chilean President Salvador Allende.
The tour will continue past other city highlights, including the Palacio de los Tribunales de Justicia and the former National Congress, which was closed in 1973 by Augusto Pinochet's military government.
Next, we will approach Plaza de Armas to explore the Inca past of the city, admiring the exterior of the Cathedral and uncovering its history.
After approximately 2 hours, we will conclude the free tour at the starting point next to the equestrian statue of Pedro de Valdivia.
