Immerse yourself in the culture of the Inca civilization by visiting a ceremonial centre near Cusco on our Vitcos Day Trip. You'll feel like you've travelled back in time during this trip to the archaeological site.
Vitcos Day Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 2 am and depart for the district of Vilcabamba. On the way, we'll cross the Sacred Valley of the Incas and part of the Abra Malaga Route, with peaks at 14,160 feet (4,316 m). We will then descend through the Lucumayo Valley and cross the Vilcanota River via the Chaullay Bridge.
Upon reaching Huancacalle, you will have free time to eat breakfast. We'll start a hiking route to the Vitcos archaeological complex, the site of the assassination of monarch Manco Inca II. While enjoying views of the Vilcabamba valley at 8,860 feet (2,700 m), we will discuss the area's history.
At Vitcos, we will observe its pink stone constructions, also known as Rosaspata. We will explore three sectors housing the main square, ceremonial monuments, and the Wanca, a sacred place. Notable is the White Rock, carved with the Inca Cross or Chakana.
We will continue to Lucma to see the colonial Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, built in Baroque style over an Inca oratory, using materials from the archaeological complex of Incahuarakana. We will also view the bell tower and mural paintings.
Finally, we will stop at a local restaurant for lunch before returning to Cusco, where we expect to arrive at your hotel around 9 pm.
