Vitcos Day Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 2 am and travel to the district of Vilcabamba, crossing the Sacred Valley of the Incas and part of the Abra Malaga Route. After descending through the Lucumayo Valley and crossing the Vilcanota River via the Chaullay Bridge, we will arrive at the village of Huancacalle for breakfast.
From Huancacalle, we will hike to the Vitcos archaeological complex, the site where monarch Manco Inca II was assassinated. At an altitude of 8,860 feet (2,700 meters), we will discuss the history of the area while enjoying views of the Vilcabamba valley. In Vitcos, known as Rosaspata, we will explore three sectors including the main square, ceremonial monuments, and the Wanca sacred site. The visit will also feature the White Rock, showcasing the Inca Cross or Chakana.
Next, we will pass through Lucma to see the Baroque Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, built over an Inca oratory using materials from the Incahuarakana archaeological complex. After this visit, we will stop at a local restaurant for lunch before returning to Cusco, where we expect to arrive back at your hotel by 9 pm.
