Description
Our journey begins at the designated meeting point near the Museum of the Royal Houses, where we will embark on this tour of Santo Domingo, designed to unveil the fascinating surroundings of the Dominican capital. Are you ready? Let’s start!
Initially, we will head north, tracing the perimeter of the historic city of Santo Domingo while recounting the historical narratives of slavery in the nation. Our visit to La Negrera, the area where enslaved individuals entered to be auctioned, will provide critical insights into this somber chapter of history.
Next, we will wander through the Santa Bárbara neighborhood, a lively area adorned with graffiti and historic landmarks, including the Castrense Cathedral. Here, we will take a moment to appreciate its delightful façade before proceeding to the Santa Bárbara Fort. This location offers panoramic views of the city—an ideal photo opportunity!
Our explorative journey will then lead us to Chinatown, where we will uncover intriguing stories about the Chinese community residing in Santo Domingo while traversing its streets filled with local product stalls.
We will also make a stop at the Modelo Market, renowned for its artisanal goods that are hard to resist. Our final destination will be the Santo Domingo promenade, where we will encounter the striking male and female obelisks.
After a comprehensive 2-hour exploration, we will return to our starting point to conclude our enriching experience together.
