In this tour of the Fort of San Carlos, we'll visit one of the key monuments of Santoña and take a boat ride to the Caballo lighthouse.
Fort of San Carlos Tour + Boat Ride
At the scheduled time, we will meet on Calle Juan de la Cosa to commence the guided tour of the Fort of San Carlos.
We will start with a walk of approximately 3 kilometers to reach the fort. The tour will provide insights into the significance of these defensive constructions in Santoña, including various curiosities about the geographical context of this Cantabrian town.
Upon arrival, we will explore the fort to understand its strategic position and its role in restricting access to the bay. Santoña is noted for being referred to as the Gibraltar of the North, playing a crucial role in 17th and 18th century naval affairs.
Subsequently, we will embark on a one-hour boat ride to the Caballo Lighthouse, built in 1863, offering views of the town of Santoña and the Bay of Biscay. This location provides an excellent opportunity for photography.
After two and a half hours, we will conclude the activity at the port of Santoña.
