Discover the anchovy canning process in Cantabria with this Santoña Canning Factory & Marshland Tour. You'll also visit one of the town's most visited locations.
Description
We'll meet at the designated time near the mural of Santoña, alongside the Avenida de Lons parking lot. Prepare to explore one of Cantabria's hidden treasures.
Before starting our excursion, we will discuss the rich history and culture of Santoña, focusing on figures like Juan de la Cosa, a notable sailor and cartographer from the area involved in the exploration of the Americas. We will also share stories about the Faro del Caballo and the famous Carnival of Santoña, recognized as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Next, we will head to the Natural Park of the Marshes of Santoña, Victoria, and Joyel. This wetland is one of the largest on the northern Iberian Peninsula and plays a critical role as a habitat for various migratory birds.
Continuing, we will visit one of Santoña's anchovy canning factories. The specific factory will vary by season. Attendees will observe the detailed preparation process of anchovy fillets, including fish cleaning, arrangement, and tin packaging for distribution.
The tour will conclude with a tasting session of Santoña's famous anchovies, a hallmark of Cantabrian cuisine, after which we will wrap up our excursion after 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours.
