Discover the anchovy canning process in Cantabria with this Santoña Canning Factory & Marshland Tour. You'll also visit one of the town's most visited locations.

Description

We'll meet at the designated time near the mural of Santoña, adjacent to the Avenida de Lons parking lot. Prepare to discover one of Cantabria's hidden treasures.

Before the excursion, we'll explore the history and culture of Santoña, highlighting figures like Juan de la Cosa, a notable sailor and cartographer linked to the exploration of the Americas. We will also discuss the Faro del Caballo and Santoña's famous Carnival, recognized as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.

Next, we will visit the Natural Park of the Marshes of Santoña, Victoria, and Joyel, one of the largest wetlands in the northern Iberian Peninsula, significant for its diverse migratory bird species.

We will then tour a Santoña anchovy canning factory. The factory we visit will vary by season. Participants will witness the process of preparing anchovy fillets, from cleaning to packaging.

The tour concludes with a tasting session of Santoña's renowned anchovies, a symbol of Cantabrian cuisine, lasting between 1 hour and 45 minutes and 2 hours.

Partial Closures

On Saturday, public holidays, and long weekends, the factory may be closed. In such cases, an employee will provide an anchovy filleting demonstration.
