Discover the anchovy canning process in Cantabria with this Santoña Canning Factory & Marshland Tour. You'll also visit one of the town's most visited locations.
Description
We'll meet near the mural of Santoña, alongside the Avenida de Lons parking lot. Prepare to discover one of Cantabria's hidden treasures.
Before our excursion, we'll explore the history and culture of Santoña, highlighting figures like Juan de la Cosa, a sailor and cartographer involved in the exploration of the Americas. We will also learn about the Faro del Caballo and Santoña's annual Carnival, recognized as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Next, we will visit the Natural Park of the Marshes of Santoña, Victoria, and Joyel, one of the largest wetlands on the northern Iberian Peninsula, significant for its biodiversity and habitat for migratory birds.
Continuing, we'll tour one of Santoña's anchovy canning factories, with the specific factory depending on the season. Observe the detailed process of preparing anchovy fillets, including cleaning, arranging, and packaging.
We will conclude the factory tour with a tasting session of Santoña's anchovies, a symbol of Cantabrian cuisine.
