Discover the anchovy canning process in Cantabria with this Santoña Canning Factory & Marshland Tour. You'll also visit one of the town's most visited locations.

Description

We'll meet at the designated time near the mural of Santoña, by the Avenida de Lons parking lot. Get ready to explore one of Cantabria's hidden treasures.

Before starting, we'll discuss the history and culture of Santoña, highlighting figures like Juan de la Cosa, a sailor and cartographer involved in the exploration of the Americas, as well as tales of the Faro del Caballo and the Carnival of Santoña.

Next, we'll visit the Natural Park of the Marshes of Santoña, Victoria, and Joyel, one of the largest wetlands in the northern Iberian Peninsula, which is vital for migratory bird species.

Continuing, we'll tour one of Santoña's anchovy canning factories, with the specific factory depending on the season. We'll observe the process of preparing anchovy fillets, including fish cleaning, arrangement, and packaging.

Our tour concludes with a tasting session of Santoña's renowned anchovies, a symbol of Cantabrian cuisine. The excursion lasts between 1 hour and 45 minutes and 2 hours.

Partial Closures

On Saturday, public holidays, and long weekends, the factory may be closed. In such cases, an employee will provide an anchovy filleting demonstration.
