Discover the anchovy canning process in Cantabria with this Santoña Canning Factory & Marshland Tour. You'll also visit one of the town's most visited locations.
Description
We'll meet up at the designated time near the mural of Santoña, situated alongside the Avenida de Lons parking lot. Are you prepared to discover one of Cantabria's hidden treasures? Let's embark on this journey!
Before commencing our excursion, we'll delve into the history and culture of Santoña, featuring notable figures like Juan de la Cosa, a sailor and cartographer from Santoña who played a role in the exploration of the Americas. Additionally, we'll uncover tales of the Faro del Caballo and Santoña's renowned Carnival, celebrated as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Next, we'll head to the Natural Park of the Marshes of Santoña, Victoria, and Joyel. This expansive wetland is significant for its role as a habitat for migratory bird species.
Continuing, we'll visit one of Santoña's anchovy canning factories, with the specific factory varying by season. We'll observe the process of preparing anchovy fillets, from cleaning to packaging.
Concluding our guided tour of the factory, we'll enjoy a tasting session of Santoña's renowned anchovies, a symbol of Cantabrian cuisine.
Finally, after 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours, we'll conclude our excursion.
Partial Closures
On Saturday, public holidays, and long weekends, the factory may be closed. In this case, an employee will show us an anchovy filleting demonstration.
