Tour Details
Our guided tour of Santoña begins next to the Monument to Juan de la Cosa, a notable navigator and cartographer from the town. You will hear about his background and achievements while strolling down the picturesque Paseo de Pereda, which runs parallel to the Cantabrian coast. At one end, you will see the Fort of San Martín, significant during the Napoleonic invasions of the 19th century.
Near this area, we will find a sculpture paying tribute to the carnival in Santoña, recognized as a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest. Following this, we will share facts about the Torre de la Aguada, a former water reservoir used to supply steamships in the early 20th century.
With views of the sea, we will discuss the town's maritime tradition, including expressions like secadero and tintero. We will also visit the Plaza de Toros de Santoña, the local bullring near the port and the Lonja de Pescado. The tour will conclude at the fishing port, highlighting the town's long-running fishing tradition, particularly its famous Cantabrian anchovy.
We will enter the port to visit its auction room, where freshly caught fish is traded, marking the end of the tour.
