Description
At the specified time, our team will meet you at your accommodation to commence our panoramic exploration of São Luís. Are you aware that it is the sole Brazilian city established by the French? Join us to uncover the intriguing history and vibrant culture of this remarkable city!
Today, São Luís is renowned as the capital of Bumba-Meu-Boi, a culturally rich Afro-indigenous festival, and it is also the birthplace of notable poets and authors. Undoubtedly, it represents a hub of Brazilian culture.
Our journey will begin with a visit to the beaches of São Luís, where we will observe the Espigão, constructed to shield the city from fierce waves. We’ll also traverse the Jansen Lake. Are you familiar with the intriguing tale behind this lake's name? We'll share that legend as we cross the bridge over the Anil River.
Next, we will enter the urban area of São Luís, where we will embark on a walking tour of the historical center, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Did you realize that the city houses over 3,000 buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries? You will be captivated by the vibrantly tiled structures that adorn the streets.
Furthermore, we will include visits to the São Luís Cathedral, the famed Rua do Giz, and the Palacio dos Leões, the seat of the state Government. To cap off our tour, we will stop at the Tulhas Market, a vibrant center featuring local Maranhão products.
After an enriching 3-hour journey through São Luís, we will return to our vehicle and take you back to your hotel.
