Day Trip to Aparecida

On this day trip to Aparecida from Sao Paulo, you'll visit the city known for the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, one of the largest in the world.

Description

We'll depart from Sao Paulo heading to Aparecida, situated in the valley of the River Paraíba do Sul. This city attracts thousands of pilgrims annually.

Our first stop will be at Porto do Itaguaçú, the site where the image of Our Lady of Aparecida was found in the 18th century. Here, we can visit a small chapel on the banks of the river.

Next, we will go to the historical centre of the city to visit the Old Basilica of Aparecida, where you will have 40 minutes of free time for exploration or shopping. After that, we will cross the Passarela da Fé, a 35-metre high walkway connecting the Old Basilica with the National Shrine. This 389 metre-long walkway has become a tourist attraction, with some devotees crossing on their knees.

The crossing takes about 20 minutes, and upon arrival, we will explore the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida. A highlight will be the Sala das Promessas.

You will then have free time for lunch and further exploration of the city. Optional activities include taking the cable car, visiting the Tower Museum, or exploring Monte das Oliveiras. Finally, we will return to Sao Paulo.

The tour includes hotel pickup from hotels within a 4-mile (6-km) radius of Praça da Sé. For other locations, pickup will be from the meeting point at 2355 Avenida Paulista.
