In the abandoned and demilitarised city of Cheorwon, the remnants of the Korean conflict are evident. This day trip from Seoul explores the location's history.
Description
All armed conflicts result in collateral damage and severe consequences. The Korean War is significant; Cheorwon, under North Korean control from 1945, was a major battleground. Today, military trucks and checkpoints are common, reminding visitors of past horrors.
We'll meet at the chosen pickup location and head to the demilitarized area of Cheorwon. Here, a plaque says, "The iron horse wants to run again", which your guide will explain.
We will visit the Second Tunnel, the widest tunnel in Korea, discovered in 1975, and walk along 3.5 kilometres (2.1 miles) of a secret invasion route.
Next is the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, dedicated to the victims of the conflict and offering views of the border area between the Koreas.
The tour includes a visit to the Woljeong-ri Railway Station, which was destroyed by US bombing raids, followed by a lunch of various vegetables.
Finally, we will return to the pickup points in Seoul, concluding this 11-13 hour tour.
