In the abandoned and demilitarised city of Cheorwon, the remnants of the Korean conflict are visible. This day trip from Seoul allows you to explore the region's history.
Description
The Korean War had significant impacts, particularly in Cheorwon, which was under North Korean control from 1945. This area experienced intense battles and is still marked by military presence. Participants will assemble at their chosen meeting point and travel to the demilitarized area of Cheorwon. There is a plaque inscribed with "The iron horse wants to run again", which your guide will explain.
Visitors will tour the Second Tunnel, a strategic site designed for surprise attacks and the widest tunnel in Korea, discovered in 1975. The tour includes a 3.5-kilometre (2.1 miles) walk through this tunnel.
Additionally, the tour will feature the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, which commemorates the victims of the conflict while offering views of the border between the two Koreas. The itinerary includes a visit to the Woljeong-ri Railway Station, which was devastated by US bombing raids, and a lunch comprised of various vegetables.
The tour concludes with return transportation to the pickup points in Seoul, lasting 11-13 hours.
