In the abandoned and demilitarised city of Cheorwon, the remnants of the Korean conflict are evident. This day trip from Seoul explores the area's significant history.

Description

The Korean War caused considerable collateral damage to both military and civilian populations. Cheorwon, under North Korean control since 1945, witnessed many battles and has been rebuilt in South Korea post-war. Military trucks and checkpoints remain commonplace, reflecting the conflict's impact.

Our day trip begins in the demilitarized area of Cheorwon, where a plaque reads, "The iron horse wants to run again". Your guide will explain its significance during the tour.

We will visit the Second Tunnel, the widest tunnel in Korea, discovered in 1975, and walk 3.5 kilometres (2.1 miles) along this secret invasion route.

The Cheorwon Peace Observatory will be next, dedicated to honoring the conflict's victims and providing a view of the border area between the two Koreas.

We'll proceed to the Woljeong-ri Railway Station, once damaged by US bombing raids, and enjoy a delicious lunch consisting of various vegetables.

We return to Seoul, arriving 11 to 13 hours after departure.
