Private Exploration of Shanghai's Jewish Quarter
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel, leading us to the Hongkou District, where Jewish refugees began to establish their lives after fleeing Europe.
As we meander through this historical area, a visit to the Ohel Moishe Synagogue awaits us, which houses the Jewish Refugee Museum. Following this, we’ll stroll through Huoshan Park on our way to the only commemorative plaque dedicated to the Jewish community in Shanghai. Throughout the tour, we will reflect on the challenges and struggles that refugees encountered upon their arrival, alongside the support they received from the local population during those times.
Our journey continues to Doulun Road, a vibrant pedestrian thoroughfare filled with historic buildings, museums, art galleries, libraries, and charming cafes. Here, we’ll celebrate the rich cultural and artistic tapestry unique to Shanghai. This lively avenue has been a path trodden by numerous prominent writers, artists, politicians, and revolutionaries.
Among the landmarks we will explore in Hongkou are the Lu Xun House, the Museum of Modern Art Shanghai, and the Duolun History Museum, which tells the story of this bustling street from the 19th century to today. Additionally, we will visit the Kong Xiangxi Temple, established by a notable Chinese banker and politician.
After 3 hours of immersing yourself in the captivating Jewish Quarter of Shanghai, we will return you to your hotel.
