Description

This excursion to Laki Volcano presents an opportunity to behold one of southern Iceland's most stunning landscapes. We will delve into the historical significance and impact of its eruption that occurred more than 200 years ago.

Laki Volcano Day Trip

The adventure starts at 9 am with a pickup from your chosen location in Kirkjubæjarklaustur. We will then embark on a jeep journey lasting approximately an hour and a half to reach Laki Volcano. Are you prepared for an exciting day ahead?

Throughout the tour, we will explore the captivating history surrounding this vast volcanic rift. Notably, when it erupted two centuries ago, its effects reshaped the climate across Europe. In addition to altering weather patterns, the eruption tragically claimed the lives of a significant portion of the Icelandic population. Quite an alarming fact, isn’t it?

Upon arrival, we will ascend the mountain for two and a half hours, absorbing the breathtaking vistas of the series of craters and the majestic Vatnajökull glacier. This setting offers fantastic photography opportunities! Plus, you can take time to enjoy a picnic lunch that you will bring along for this adventure.

Following our ascent, we will continue by visiting the Tjarnargígur crater, where we can stroll around its periphery and witness the lake that has emerged within. Another highlight of our trip will be the concealed Fagrifoss waterfall. Here, a hike through its narrow gorge will create a fitting end to the day's explorations.

Finally, we will return to the jeep and make our way back to Kirkjubæjarklaustur, concluding our expedition approximately 9 hours after the initial pickup.
