Interested in ancient civilizations? Join us on this journey to the Finca 6 Archaeological Site, where we’ll explore a significant location of the Diquís culture in Costa Rica.
Excursion to the Finca 6 Archaeological Site
Our adventure begins at 8 am at Sierpe's Pier, from where we’ll travel by road to the northern area of the town.
In just a brief 15-minute drive, we’ll arrive at the Finca 6 Archaeological Site, home to the vestiges of the Diquís culture. This pre-Columbian society thrived in what is now known as the Osa canton, leaving behind remarkable signs of their existence.
We will embark on a guided journey through the Finca 6 Archaeological Site, which has been recognized as a World Heritage Site. Here, we will observe the enigmatic stone spheres associated with the Diquís culture. What were these massive spheres created for? How did the Diquís artisans construct them? We’ll address these questions and more as we delve into the tour.
The exploration will continue with a visit to the Finca 6 museum. In this space, we’ll be able to appreciate four invaluable original artifacts: a stone sphere, a spiked statue, a feline sculpture, and a ceremonial grinding stone. Through this, we’ll uncover the significance of these items and learn about various other facets of the Diquís culture.
Once our museum visit concludes, we’ll head back to our starting point in Sierpe, arriving between 10 and 10:30 am.
