Discover the remains of the ancient kingdom of Polonnaruwa and admire the beautiful mountain scenery of Pidurangala with this excursion from Sigiriya. You'll explore one of Sri Lanka's best-kept secrets!

Polonnaruwa & Pidurangala Excursion

After picking you up at your hotel in Sigiriya at 10 am, we will travel to Polonnaruwa.

Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes later, we will arrive at the ruins of this ancient kingdom founded by King Vijayabahu in 1070. Upon arrival, we will exchange the minibus for bicycles to explore this ancient city comfortably.

Next, we will head to the outskirts of Polonnaruwa and swap bikes for an ox-drawn cart, a typical mode of transport in some Sri Lankan villages. Following this, we will board a boat for a ride on Bendiwewa Lake to gain a new perspective of the area.

We will then ride a tuk tuk to a local farmer's residence where the farmer will discuss traditional rural lifestyles.

After this visit, we will return to the minibus and drive to the ancient monastery of Pidurangala to admire the ruins. If physically capable, you can also climb to the top of Pidurangala Rock for exceptional views of Sigiriya.

Finally, we will return you to your hotel in Sigiriya, arriving by 2 pm.
