Uncover the remnants of the historic realm of Polonnaruwa and bask in the stunning landscape of Pidurangala with this tour departing from Sigiriya. Experience one of Sri Lanka's best-kept secrets!

Polonnaruwa & Pidurangala Tour

We begin our journey with a hotel pickup in Sigiriya at 10 am, setting our sights on the first highlight of the day: Polonnaruwa.

After approximately an hour and fifteen minutes of travel, we'll reach the ruins of this ancient kingdom established by King Vijayabahu in 1070. Once we arrive, we'll switch from the minibus to bicycles, allowing us to traverse this historical city in a fun and comfortable way.

Next, we’ll head to the outskirts of Polonnaruwa, where we'll exchange our bikes for a traditional ox-drawn cart. It’s fascinating to note that this method of transport remains common in some Sri Lankan villages. Following this, we’ll board a boat for a cruise on Bendiwewa Lake, offering us a fresh perspective of the surroundings.

Our adventure continues as we take a tuk tuk to visit a local farmer, who will share insights into the traditional rural lifestyle.

Following this insightful experience, we’ll return to the minibus and make our way to the ancient Pidurangala monastery, where the ruins present a picturesque scene harmonized with nature. For those physically capable, the climb to the summit of Pidurangala Rock promises breathtaking vistas of Sigiriya that are undoubtedly rewarding!

Our excursion concludes with a return trip to your hotel in Sigiriya, where we anticipate arriving around 2 pm.
