National Palace of Queluz + Gardens
The National Palace of Queluz stands out as one of the most exquisite architectural marvels in Portugal. Nestled in the Sintra municipality, this stunning palace was commissioned in the Baroque style during the infancy of Peter III. Following his union with the heir to the throne, Princess Mary, it transitioned into a recognized royal residence.
The monarch engaged the French architect Jean-Baptiste Robillion to renovate the palace, infusing it with design elements reminiscent of the celebrated Palace of Versailles. For centuries, Queluz served as a focal point for the Portuguese court and its intrigues, hosting elaborate soirées and dances within its ornate halls and gardens. Today, it serves as an official residence for visiting foreign heads of State.
The palace gardens are adorned with fountains and mythical sculptures, showcasing a remarkable balance of landscape design. Presently, these gardens also function as the headquarters of the School of Equestrian Art. Notably, this rehabilitation initiative received the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage and the Europa Nostra Award in 2018.
With this ticket, you will relive significant historical moments witnessed by the National Palace of Queluz by touring the Throne Room, Music Room, and the Ambassadors Room, along with royal chambers and other significant rooms.
