National Palace of Sintra & Gardens
This ticket allows access to the elegant corridors and rooms of the National Palace of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. The palace's origins date back to the 10th century as a residence of Arab governors, later used by Denis I of Portugal in the 13th century. It became a royal residence after Denis gifted it to his wife, Queen Saint Elizabeth of Portugal. The Lisbon earthquake of 1755 damaged parts of the building, which were then rebuilt to reflect its 16th-century appearance. Inside, visitors can see the Spanish-Mudejar style rooms, the Hall of the Coats of Arms, the Hall of the Arabs, the Hall of the Swans, and the royal kitchens. The gardens have also been restored by Parques de Sintra, and since 2013, the site has been part of the European Network of Royal Residences.
