Explore at your leisure the unique rooms, courtyards, and multicolored towers of this fortress that look like something out of a fairytale with this admission ticket to the Palacio da Pena and its gardens.
Description
With this ticket, you can visit the most iconic castle in Portugal and walk through its labyrinths and colorful rooms. Are you ready to visit the place that has become synonymous with Sintra?
Built in the 18th century by order of King Ferdinand II, the Palacio da Pena attracts millions of visitors each year. To access it, visitors must cross its gardens along winding paths surrounded by trees and exotic plants. Ferdinand II, a lover of the arts and Romantic style, envisioned this setting after falling in love with Sintra's scenery.
Upon reaching the hilltop, the path leads directly to the palace entrance. Visitors can explore the interior as well as the courtyards and towers adorned with red, yellow, and blue tiles and stuccoes.
The palace's architecture combines neo-Gothic, neo-Mudejar, and neo-Manueline styles, earning it a World Heritage Site designation by UNESCO in 1995, and it has been a National Monument since 1910. It is part of the European Network of Royal Residences since 2013.
