Built in the 18th century by order of King Ferdinand II, the Palacio da Pena attracts millions of visitors every year. To access it, you must cross its gardens through winding paths surrounded by trees and exotic plants. Ferdinand II aimed to create this fairytale setting after arriving in Sintra.

Once at the top of the hill, the path leads you directly to the palace entrance. You can access its interior and explore its courtyards and towers decorated with red, yellow, and blue tiles and stuccoes.

The combination of neo-Gothic, neo-Mudejar, and neo-Manueline architecture resulted in the Pena Palace being declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1995 and a National Monument since 1910. It has been part of the European Network of Royal Residences since 2013.

Opening hours

The selected time shown is for admission to Palácio da Pena. The walk from the ticket office to the palace entrance takes about 30 minutes.

Children under 6 years old do not need to pay for the ticket, but you must go to the ticket office at the Palacio da Pena to pick up their tickets.
