On this Ortigia Island Guided Tour, you'll wander through the historical center of Syracuse, discovering temples, palaces, churches, and fountains.

Description

At the designated time, we'll meet at Largo XXV Luglio in front of the Temple of Apollo, the oldest Doric temple in Sicily, dating back to the 6th century B.C. This temple is notable for its architectural transition from wooden to stone structures.

After discussing the history of the temple, we'll visit the Church of San Filippo Apostolo and its crypt, which served as an air-raid shelter during World War II.

Next, we'll go to Piazza Archimede to observe the Fountain of Diana, created in 1906 by Giulio Moschetti, depicting the myth of Arethusa and Alphaeus.

Our tour will include the Cathedral of Syracuse, built in the 17th century, which incorporates a Baroque cathedral into the main Doric temple dedicated to Minerva.

Additionally, we'll see the Arethusa Fountain, surrounded by papyrus plants, also connected to the myth of Arethusa and Alphaeus, discussed during the tour.

After 2 hours of exploring the history of Syracuse's ancient island, we'll conclude our guided tour of Ortigia.
