Tour of Neapolis
We'll meet at the entrance of the Neapolis Archaeological Park to begin our guided tour. This site represents one of the key monuments of ancient Greek and Roman Syracuse.
As we explore the ruins, we'll delve into the history of the location where Archimedes was born and where notable figures such as Plato and Cicero visited.
Our tour will include the Latomia of Paradise, a stone quarry housing the renowned Ear of Dionysus, which was also used as a prison. Visitors can experience its notable acoustics.
Next, we'll approach the substantial Greek Theater, recognized as one of the largest theaters worldwide. From here, we will see the nymphaeum fountain and enjoy views of the port of Syracuse.
Lastly, our visit will encompass the Roman Amphitheater, constructed after the city's conquest for gladiator combats.
The tour will conclude after an hour and a half of walking, returning to the starting point.
