On this guided tour of the Neapolis Archaeological Park, we'll visit significant monuments in Sicily, following the traces of the Greeks and Romans in Syracuse.
Tour of Neapolis
We will meet at the entrance of the Neapolis Archaeological Park and begin the guided tour of ancient Greek and Roman Syracuse.
We will enter the archaeological site and walk through the ruins of the most important Greek colony in the West. We will discuss the history of the area, known for being the birthplace of Archimedes and visited by Plato and Cicero.
During the tour, we will explore the Latomia of Paradise, a stone quarry featuring the Ear of Dionysus, which was used as a prison for his enemies. You can test the acoustics of this site.
Next, we will approach the remarkable Greek Theater, one of the largest theaters in the world, where we will view the nymphaeum fountain and enjoy a view of the port of Syracuse.
Lastly, we will visit the Roman Amphitheater, constructed for gladiator fights.
The tour of the Neapolis Archaeological Park will conclude back at the starting point after an hour and a half of walking.
