Whale Watching from Ólafsvík
Upon arrival at your designated time, we will convene on Norðurtangi Street at the port of Ólafsvík. From here, we will board a vessel for an enjoyable experience observing dolphins and whales along Iceland's scenic coastline.
As we navigate through the waters, we’ll glide along the edges of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, allowing you to soak in the breathtaking views. In the distance, the majestic Snæfellsjökull volcano, standing at 4,700 feet (1,450 meters), will catch your eye, adorned with its glaciers.
Once we've ventured farther from the shoreline, opportunities to spot the first whales will become apparent. Depending on the season, you might encounter various whale species, including humpback, minke, pilot, and sperm whales, along with orcas.
Observe these magnificent creatures up close, and if fortune smiles upon us, you may even hear their songs and vocalizations. We might also come across schools of dolphins. As we enjoy the presence of these animals, we’ll share interesting insights to help you become knowledgeable about dolphins and whales.
Throughout the boat journey, capture images of the beautiful Skarðsvík sandy beaches, glimpse the city of Keflavík, and appreciate the views of Öndverðarnes and Svörtuloft lighthouses.
After approximately 2 to 4 hours immersed in this adventure, we will return to the starting point, concluding our whale watching experience.
About Whale Watching
Ólafsvík offers a prime location for observing whale activity. However, it is important to remember that wildlife can be unpredictable. The likelihood of spotting whales varies due to factors such as currents, wind conditions, and the weather at the time of the tour. The weather in the Arctic can shift rapidly, which can impact animal behavior.
The duration of the trip may change based on the weather and the time required to locate the whales. Regardless, all activities adhere to a strict policy of respect for the wildlife, ensuring that we do not intrude upon or disrupt their natural habitat.
