Communist Sofia Tour

After meeting up at 4 pm in front of the Court House in the heart of Sofia city centre, we'll begin our walking tour of the Bulgarian capital's communist past.

First, we'll go back to the end of the Second World War. Our expert English-speaking guide will discuss the birth and evolution of the Bulgarian Communist Party and the importance of two historic figures: Stalin and Churchill.

As we walk around Sofia, we'll admire emblematic buildings from the Communist era while learning about the secret police and tactics used by the state to control the population. We'll explore what life was like under Communism in Bulgaria, including the health system, gender equality, and how this historic period affects residents today.

We'll stop at the old Royal Palace, now home to the National Art Gallery, before proceeding to one of the most controversial sites in the city: the Monument to the Soviet Army, a location that has seen protests and vandalism over political messages.

Our tour will conclude at around 7 pm in front of the monument dedicated to victims of Communism.
