Communist Sofia Tour

After meeting up at 4 pm in front of the Court House in central Sofia, we will begin our walking tour of the Bulgarian capital's communist past.

We will start at the end of the Second World War, with our expert English-speaking guide providing insights into the birth and evolution of the Bulgarian Communist Party and the roles of significant figures like Stalin and Churchill.

While walking through Sofia, we will observe notable buildings from the Communist era as our guide discusses the secret police and state control tactics. We will explore life under Communism in Bulgaria, including the health system, gender equality, and the historical impact on current residents.

A stop will be made at the old Royal Palace, now home to the National Art Gallery, before proceeding to the Monument to the Soviet Army, a site of protests and vandalism with political messages.

Our tour will conclude around 7 pm in front of the monument dedicated to victims of Communism.
