Communist Sofia Tour
After meeting up at 4 pm in front of the Court House in the heart of Sofia city centre, we'll begin our walking tour of the Bulgarian capital's communist past.
This tour will take us back to the end of the Second World War. Our expert English-speaking guide will discuss the birth and evolution of the Bulgarian Communist Party and the significance of Stalin and Churchill.
As we walk around Sofia, we will admire emblematic buildings from the Communist era while our guide reveals information about the secret police and strategies used by the state to control the population. We'll gain insights into life under Communism in Bulgaria, including the health system, gender equality, and the lasting impacts on residents today.
We will stop by the old Royal Palace, now the National Art Gallery, before continuing to the controversial Monument to the Soviet Army, a site of protest often vandalised with political messages.
The tour will conclude at approximately 7 pm in front of the monument dedicated to victims of Communism.
