You can choose between two options for a private day trip from Sofia. For a visit to the Ancient Roman Empire, select Plovdiv. For churches and monasteries, Rila and Boyana is the ideal choice.

Plovdiv Day Trip (8 hours)

We will meet at 9 am at the St. Alexandar Nevski Cathedral and head southeast to Plovdiv. During the 2-hour journey, we will learn about Europe's oldest city.

Upon arrival, our first stop will be the Traciana fort ruins, over thirty centuries old. Next, we will visit Plovdiv's old town, admiring the Renaissance houses and churches, concluding at the Dzhumaya mosque, one of the oldest Ottoman buildings in the Balkans.

We will then explore the Ancient Roman Empire ruins, including the stadium, forum, and theatre in the main square. Finally, we will visit the Bachkovo monastery, the second largest in Bulgaria, which houses the icon of the Virgin Mary.

The day concludes with a return to Sofia, arriving at 5 pm.

Rila and Boyana Day Trip (7 hours)

We will meet at 9 am at St. Alexandar Nevski Cathedral and travel privately to Rila, two hours from Sofia. The guide will provide insights about the site’s historical significance.

Our first destination will be the Rila monastery, founded in the 10th century by Saint Ivan of Rila. Following a visit to the monastery, we will have lunch at a nearby restaurant (not included).

Afterward, we will head to Boyana to see the Boyana church, known for its artistic significance and as the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Bulgaria.

After the visit, we will return to Sofia, arriving at 4 pm.
