You can choose between two options for a private day trip from Sofia: Plovdiv for a glimpse into the Ancient Roman Empire or Rila and Boyana for an experience of churches and monasteries.

Plovdiv Day Trip (8 hours)

At 9 am, we'll meet at the St. Alexandar Nevski Cathedral and head southeast to Plovdiv. The 2-hour journey includes insights about Europe’s oldest city.

In Plovdiv, the first stop will be the Traciana fort ruins, dating back to the 8th century BC. The tour will then proceed to Plovdiv's old town to see its Renaissance houses and churches, concluding at the Dzhumaya mosque, one of the oldest Ottoman structures in the Balkans.

Next, visit the Ancient Roman Empire ruins, including the stadium, forum, and theatre. The day ends with a visit to the Bachkovo monastery, known for the beautiful icon of the Virgin Mary, before returning to Sofia by 5 pm.

Rila and Boyana Day Trip (7 hours)

At 9 am, we’ll meet at St. Alexandar Nevski Cathedral and drive privately to Rila, about two hours from Sofia. A guide will share historical insights along the way.

The first stop will be the Rila monastery, founded in the 10th century by Saint Ivan of Rila. After exploring the site and learning about its history, lunch will be provided at a restaurant by the Rila river (not included).

Next, we’ll head to Boyana to visit the Boyana church, renowned for its artistic significance and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the visit, we will return to Sofia, arriving at 4 pm.
