As we meander through the scenic streets, you'll delve into the rich history and origins of this sought-after destination. Our path will lead us across the elegant Piazza Tasso square, eventually bringing us to the intriguing Mill Valley, or Vallone dei Mulini. Here, you'll uncover its haunting past and the reasons behind its abandonment in 1940.
Next, we will visit Corso Italia, bustling with shops, charming cafés, and the lively spirit of local life. Our exploration continues to the magnificent Sorrento Cathedral, honoring saints Felipe and Santiago. The striking façade leads into an interior adorned in the late Baroque style, featuring a coffered ceiling, colorful marble, and mesmerizing paintings from the Neapolitan school.
Just a short walk away, we will explore the Basilica di Sant'Antonino, one of the city's oldest places of worship, built on an Early Christian oratory that holds deep connections to Sorrento's maritime and spiritual heritage.
We will then proceed to the Convent of San Francesco, where the serene courtyards will leave you in awe. Adjacent to this site, the Villa Comunale serves as a natural overlook of the Bay of Naples, granting breathtaking views of the coastline and Vesuvius adorning the horizon of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
During our journey, we will also delve into one of Sorrento's most cherished artisanal traditions, Sorrentine marquetry. A visit to a local workshop or gallery will provide insight into this decorative art form that dates back to the 19th century.
To conclude our tour, we will arrive at the Marina Grande port, where you can admire stunning coastal views and gain insight into the daily lives of Sorrento’s residents.
