Trip Details
Day 1: El Djem – Matmata – Douz
Our journey begins with your pickup from a designated hotel in Sousse at the planned time, setting the stage for two days of discovering Tunisia's treasures.
The first location is the El Djem amphitheatre, often referred to as the Tunisian Coliseum. As we explore this remarkable archaeological site, you will gain insights into its storied past and the gladiatorial games that once took place within its walls.
Following this, we will proceed to Matmata, well-known for its unique troglodyte dwellings. This ancient Amazigh settlement is ingeniously carved from rock, providing shelter from the desert's oppressive heat. Visitors will have about one hour of free time for lunch (meal not included).
Afterward, our path will lead us to the Douz desert, where you can take in the magnificent Sahara and participate in optional quad or camel rides (not included).
The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel in Douz, preparing for the adventures of the following day.
Day 2: Douz – Chott Djerid – Oasis - Kairouan
The next morning, you can enjoy breakfast at a local café before embarking on a visit to Chott El Djerid. This expansive salt flat spans 5000 square kilometers, creating stunning mirages that dance on the horizon. What wonders await?
We will then journey towards the Atlas mountain range, visiting the lush oasis of Chebika and Tamerza. Our final destination will be the spiritual city of Kairouan, where we will tour the Great Mosque to admire its impressive façade, while learning about its significance within Islam from our knowledgeable guide.
The excursion concludes as we return you to your hotel in Sousse.
