Day Trip to a Maroon Town
At 10 am, hotel pickup will occur in Runaway Bay for a trip of approximately two hours to Charles Town.
This town hosts one of Jamaica's Maroon communities. Upon arrival, we will visit the Charles Town Maroon Museum, where the history of this community and their struggle for freedom will be explored.
The Maroons are descendants of individuals originally brought from Africa as slaves in the 18th century, now identifying as independent communities of ex-runaway slaves.
After learning about this historical period, participants can engage with traditional music and dances.
Following cultural activities, we will proceed to the Buff Bay River for a refreshing swim. Lunch will be available at a local restaurant (lunch not included).
After lunch, we will return to Runaway Bay, concluding the tour around 3 pm at your hotel.
If preferred, this day trip is also available from Ocho Ríos.
