Day Trip to a Maroon Town

At 10 am, hotel pick-up will be provided from Runaway Bay. The travel time to Charles Town is approximately two hours.

Charles Town is home to a Maroon community. Upon arrival, you will visit the Charles Town Maroon Museum, where you will learn about the history of the community and their struggle for freedom.

The Maroons are descendants of people originally brought from Africa as slaves in the 18th century, now identifying as independent communities of ex-runaway slaves.

After this historical exploration, you can participate in traditional music and dances.

Next, you will visit the Buff Bay River to enjoy a refreshing dip and continue to a local restaurant for local cuisine (lunch is not included).

After lunch, the return journey to Runaway Bay begins, concluding the tour back at your hotel around 3 pm.

If preferred, this day trip is also available from Ocho Ríos.
