Cordillera de los Frailes Hiking Adventure

Your day begins at 8:30 am, when we will collect you from your accommodation and transport you to the charming town of Chataquila, situated 30 kilometers from Sucre’s city center. From this point, we will commence a two-hour trek through the Cordillera de los Frailes, a striking mountain range that separates the regions of Chuquisaca and Potosí.

Throughout our hike, we will pause at several remarkable spots to appreciate the hidden treasures of this area. Our first stop will be the cave paintings at Inka Mach'ay, created approximately 2,500 years ago in vivid red and white hues. Some of these artworks depict human forms and geometric shapes, while the significance of others remains elusive. Our next destination will be the Pumamachay cave, which also features intriguing cave paintings, this time rendered in black.

As we navigate the landscapes of the Cordillera de los Frailes, enjoy breathtaking vistas of the surrounding Chataquila mountain range. After working up an appetite, we will take a break for a delightful picnic lunch before proceeding towards one of the local villages, where our bus will be ready to transport us.

We will also stop at the Tazón viewpoint, where you can marvel at the stunning panoramic views of the Maragua Crater and its vibrant colors. Our adventure concludes with a return to your hotel in Sucre around 2:30 pm.
