Maragua Crater Hike
At 8:30 am, we will meet at your hotel in Sucre and depart for the village of Chataquila, where we will stop to visit the chapel dedicated to Tomás Katari, the Indigenous Peoples' guerilla leader. Next, we will embark on a 2-hour hike along the Inca Trail of Chataquila, observing the scenery and learning about the medicinal plants along the way, such as muña and wira wira.
We will then reach the village of Chaunaca and take a bus to the Maragua Crater. Upon arrival, we'll explore the crater while experiencing the area’s fresh air. Additionally, we will visit local homes to learn about their agriculture and textile production-based lifestyle. A picnic lunch will follow this community visit.
After lunch, we will begin our return journey to Sucre, stopping at a viewpoint for panoramic views of the Bolivian countryside, with an estimated return to your hotel by 3:30 pm.
Visiting the Niñu Mayu Dinosaur Footprints
If desired, you can book an option that includes a visit to the Niñu Mayu dinosaur footprints. After lunch and visiting the viewpoint, we will head to this site, recognized as one of the seven wonders of Chataquila. This portion includes another 2-hour hike to see real dinosaur footprints from the Cretaceous period. The return to Sucre and drop-off at your hotel will occur around 5:30 pm.
