Maragua Crater Hike
At 8:30 am, we'll meet you at your hotel in Sucre and head towards the village of Chataquila. Our first stop will be the chapel where Tomás Katari, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples' guerillas, died.
We'll then embark on a 2-hour hike along the Inca Trail of Chataquila, observing the scenery and learning about the medicinal properties of local plants, including muña and wira wira.
Next, we'll arrive at Chaunaca and take a bus to the Maragua Crater. Here, we'll explore this ancient gap and observe the local lifestyle through visits to houses focused on agriculture and textile production. A picnic lunch will follow.
After lunch, we will return to Sucre, stopping at a viewpoint for a panoramic view of the countryside, arriving back at your hotel by 3:30 pm.
Visiting the Niñu Mayu Dinosaur Footprints
For an extended option, you can also include a visit to the Niñu Mayu dinosaur footprints. After lunch and the viewpoint stop, we will head to this site, regarded as one of the seven wonders of Chataquila. Another 2-hour hike will showcase real dinosaur footprints from the Cretaceous period. We will return to Sucre and drop you off at your hotel by 5:30 pm.
