Hike Around Maragua Crater

Our adventure begins at 8:30 am when we will meet at your hotel in Sucre before departing for the quaint village of Chataquila. Our first stop will be at the local chapel, a historic site where Tomás Katari, a prominent leader of the Indigenous guerillas, met his end.

Next, we will embark on a scenic 2-hour trek along the Inca Trail of Chataquila. As we walk, take in the stunning surroundings and gain insights into the medicinal uses of various plants, including the aromatic muña and wira wira.

Upon reaching Chaunaca, we will board a bus to the spectacular Maragua Crater. There, you will traverse this ancient geological formation while enjoying the crisp, invigorating air.

We'll also have the opportunity to interact with local residents by visiting their homes, where you can learn about their life sustained by agriculture and textile craftsmanship. After gaining a deeper understanding of their customs, we’ll pause for a picnic lunch.

Post-lunch, we will begin our return trip to Sucre, stopping at a viewpoint to take in a stunning panoramic vista of the picturesque Bolivian countryside. We expect to have you back at your hotel by 3:30 pm.

Excursion to the Niñu Mayu Dinosaur Footprints

If you're looking for a bit more adventure, consider the option to include a visit to the Niñu Mayu dinosaur footprints. Following our meal and a visit to the viewpoint, we will proceed to this site, renowned as one of Chataquila's seven wonders. Here, you will embark on another 2-hour hike, discovering authentic dinosaur footprints dating back to the Cretaceous period. After this fascinating excursion, we’ll return to Sucre, with an expected drop-off time at your hotel by 5:30 pm.
