Potosí Day Trip
Miguel de Cervantes first mentioned this city in one of his novels and coined the term "vale un potosí." His writings reflected the wealth and luxurious qualities that came from this place.
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Sucre and head to Potosí to explore its rich history and heritage. During our trip, we'll observe the magnificent architecture of Sucre, including the bridge over the Pilcomayo River with its medieval fortress towers.
Upon arrival in Potosí, we'll meet our guide and explore this imperial town, once the center of the silver trade in the 16th and 17th centuries. The silver extracted from Cerro Rico contributed to its prosperity for many years.
We'll visit preserved buildings and monuments that reflect this golden age, such as the Cathedral of Potosí, the Santa Teresa Museum, and the Casa de la Moneda (Mint), founded in the 18th century by Francisco de Toledo, Viceroy of Peru. These sites highlight Potosí's economic significance and historical presence.
During the visit, we'll learn about the legends of this silver capital while strolling through its historic streets. Afterwards, there will be free time for lunch before we return to Sucre. We will drop you back off at your hotel after 10 hours of excursion.
