Want to discover where the expression "valer un potosí" comes from? Then don't miss this excursion to Potosí, where you'll learn about the history of this great Bolivian imperial town!

Potosí Day Trip

It was Miguel de Cervantes who first mentioned this city in one of his novels, coining the term "vale un potosí". He referred to the wealth derived from this location.

At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your hotel in Sucre and travel to Potosí to explore its rich history. During the trip, you will observe the architecture of Sucre, including the bridge that spans the Pilcomayo River.

Upon arriving in Potosí, we will meet our guide and explore the town, once the center of the silver trade in the 16th and 17th centuries. The silver extracted from Cerro Rico contributed to its wealth.

The preserved buildings include: the Cathedral of Potosí, featuring gold and silver relics; the Santa Teresa Museum; and the Casa de la Moneda (Mint), established in the 18th century by Francisco de Toledo, Viceroy of Peru.

We will explore the legends of the silver capital while walking through its historic streets. After some free time for lunch, we will return to Sucre and drop you off at your hotel after a 10-hour excursion.
