Hiking Tour of Fúquene
Our adventure begins at 9 am at the El Portal De Simijaca petrol station, where we will commence a hiking experience that beautifully intertwines history with the wonders of nature.
The first stop on our trek will be a traditional handicraft workshop, where we will observe the intricate art of crafting reed baskets. This craft, rooted in the practices of pre-Columbian tribes, utilizes a material that flourishes along the shores of the lagoon.
As we continue towards the historic village of Fúquene, we will encounter an array of native flora, including alders, ciros, curubos, morus, and dandelions. Situated at an elevation exceeding 1700 meters (5577 feet), the village offers a glimpse into the fascinating histories of the Muisca, also known as the Chibcha, an indigenous group. We will also delve into the life of Teresa de Verdugo, the founder of this town.
Our exploration includes a visit to the parish church, a charming colonial structure that boasts an altar adorned with emeralds. Afterward, you will have an hour of free time to savor lunch.
Recharged, we will make our way back to the starting point in Fúquene, with our journey concluding around 5 pm.
