Fúquene Hiking Tour
We will meet at 9 am at the petrol station El Portal De Simijaca to begin our hiking route through Fúquene that combines history and nature.
The first stop will be a traditional handicraft workshop to observe the production of reed baskets, made from a material that grows along the lagoon's shores, stemming from pre-Columbian traditions.
Next, we will proceed to the ancient village of Fúquene, where we will encounter native flora including alders, ciros, curubos, morus, and dandelions. At an elevation exceeding 1700 metres (5577 feet), we will learn about the Muisca people, also known as the Chibcha, and the history of Teresa de Verdugo, the town's founder.
We will visit the parish church, a colonial structure featuring an emerald-inlaid altar. Following this, participants will have one hour of free time for lunch.
After lunch, we will return to our starting point in Fúquene, concluding the tour at approximately 5 pm.
