Fúquene Hiking Tour
We'll meet at 9 am at the petrol station El Portal De Simijaca. The hiking route through Fúquene mixes history and nature.
First, we'll walk to a traditional handicraft workshop to observe the making of reed baskets, an art form originating from pre-Columbian tribes. This raw material is sourced from the shores of the lagoon.
Subsequently, we will proceed to the ancient village of Fúquene, where we will encounter native plants such as alders, ciros, curubos, morus, and dandelions. In the village, situated at over 1700 meters (5577 feet) elevation, we will learn stories about the Muisca, also known as Chibcha, an indigenous people, and about the life of Teresa de Verdugo, the town's founder.
Additionally, we will visit the parish church, a colonial structure featuring an altar inlaid with emeralds. After this visit, you will have one hour of free time for lunch.
With renewed energy, we will return to the starting point in Fúquene. The tour concludes at 5 pm.
