On this hiking route through Sutatausa, we will explore the surrounding environment and learn about the town's history while reaching altitudes over 2500 metres (8202 feet) to view its iconic cliffs.
Sutatausa Hiking Tour
Bookings offer two different hiking routes, both starting in the main park of Sutatausa at 8 am and finishing at 4 pm:
Medium Difficulty Hiking Route
This intermediate 9 km (5.5 miles) hike begins in the centre of Sutatausa with a visit to the church of San Juan Bautista, established in the 17th century, highlighting its role as a meeting point between the indigenous Muisca people and Spanish colonisers. The hike proceeds from the town to the surrounding mountains via the Camino Real. After two hours through lush vegetation, we reach the cliffs of Sutatausa, where we will discuss their geological formation and enjoy views of the Ubaté valley at an altitude of 2750 metres (9022 feet). Two hours will be allocated for lunch before the return to the starting point.
High-Difficulty Hiking Route
This option involves a 7 km (4.3 miles) hike at a higher level of difficulty, reaching an altitude of 3,200 metres (10,4987 feet). After discovering the town center, the route leads to climb Curuta mountain. Participants will observe local wildlife and view the cliffs.
