Tacna and Campo de la Alianza Tour
Your journey begins with a convenient pickup at your hotel in Tacna at a time that suits you, setting the stage for a historical exploration of the city.
The adventure commences at the Municipal Theater, a significant structure built in 1870 that served as a field hospital during the notable Battle of Tacna (also known as the Battle of the Peak of the Alliance), where in 1880, the Peruvian army, aided by Bolivians, clashed with Chilean forces.
Following this, we'll proceed to the Casa de la Jurídica, the site where the Chileans signed the surrender of Tacna to Peru post-battle. Our next stop will be the home of Francisco Antonio de Zela, a prominent figure in Peru's independence movement.
Then, we will pass by the house of Jorge Basadre Growman, renowned chronicler of Tacna's history, before taking a bus to the historic Campo de la Alianza, the scene of fierce confrontations between Peruvian and Chilean forces for control of the area.
After exploring Campo de la Alianza, we will visit the Museum of Arms, where you'll gain insights into the significance of this historic battle. We will conclude the tour at the Campo Santo, which features a marble cross inscribed with a poem by Jorge Basadre and Jimenez Borja.
At the end of this 3-hour journey, we will return you to your hotel in Tacna.
