Amazon Rainforest: 4 or 5-Day Tour

4-Day Tour

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado - Tambopata

Commencing your adventure, we will collect you from either the airport or bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado. Following a brief introduction to the upcoming four days, we will board an all-terrain vehicle for a two-hour journey into the heart of the Amazon Rainforest.

Upon arrival at the Tambopata River, a boat will take us to our lodge, which will serve as our base for the next few days. After settling into your cabins, prepare to indulge in a flavorful lunch.

In the afternoon, we’ll embark on a guided walk through the nearby jungle to observe a variety of wildlife in its natural environment. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy. We’ll reconvene tomorrow!

Day 2: Macaw Clay Lick - Monkey Island

Awakening at dawn, we’ll set out towards El Chuncho, the largest macaw clay lick globally, embarking on a 1.5-hour riverboat journey to witness the remarkable wildlife that flourishes in this region. Be on the lookout for capybaras, jaguars, and tapirs!

Disembarking from the boat, we will explore the jungle to observe the striking display of 11 macaw species clinging to the clay walls formed by erosion. Their brilliant colors will surely enchant you!

Next, we’ll proceed to a botanical garden to learn about local fruit trees, hardwoods, and medicinal plants. After this informative stop, we’ll head back to our lodging to prepare for the next leg of our journey to Sandoval Lake.

Once settled, you can enjoy a hearty lunch. In the afternoon, a visit to Monkey Island awaits. Crossing the Madre de Dios River, we’ll encounter various monkey species, including the Gracile capuchin and the Guianan squirrel monkey.

In the evening, we'll search for caimans to capture some memorable photographs. This perfect highlight will cap off an exciting day before we return for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Sandoval Lake

Your third day kicks off with a hike of 1.86 mi (3 km) through the lush jungle, where we’ll walk along magnificent trails flanked by trees over 500 years old until reaching Sandoval Lake, one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve.

During a two-hour boat ride, immerse yourself in the wonders of the Amazon jungle. With some luck, you might even spot families of giant otters or alligators. Following this experience, we’ll return to your lodging to relax and savor a delicious lunch.

Later in the evening, we will set out on a night hike to explore a variety of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and nocturnal creatures. After our adventures, we’ll head back for dinner and rest.

Day 4: Canopy Walk

The fourth day begins early as we embark on a stroll along the hanging bridges of the Canopy Walk. The morning will find us high among the treetops, relishing stunning views of this magnificent region. Imagine standing 30 meters (100 feet) up in the trees!

Afterward, we’ll enjoy a revitalizing breakfast before returning to Puerto Maldonado, where we will bid our farewells and conclude the tour at midday.

5-Day Tour

The 5-day tour follows a similar path for the first three days as the 4-day adventure. On the fourth day, rather than returning to Puerto Maldonado, we will trek around Lake Sandoval, exploring its waters in a traditional rowing canoe, hoping to catch sight of piranhas. As night descends, we’ll embark on a night walk to explore this captivating area.

The next day (Day 5), we’ll take you back to Puerto Maldonado.
