Experience the incredible wildlife of Puerto Maldonado on this unique tour: watch vividly colorful macaws feed on a clay lick at sunrise.

Parrot Clay Lick Tour

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Maldonado at 3 am and take you to the Tambopata River, 2 hours away by car. Once we arrive, we'll delve into the heart of the Tambopata National Reserve.

The early start will be worth it as you drive around the river and watch the sun begin to rise over Puerto Maldonado. The breathtaking colors of dawn over the Amazon Jungle will make for a postcard-perfect image!

Arriving at the El Chuncho clay lick, known locally as a colpa, you'll stand and wait for the brightly colored macaws to appear for their morning feed on the clay wall. Spend an hour watching as the different species of parrot and macaw "lick the clay" of the colpa. You'll be left speechless by their incredible colors!

After the excursion to the parrot and macaw clay lick, we'll head towards a lodge in the reserve, crossing a trail where, if we're lucky, we may see the most popular inhabitants of the area: the sloths! We may also come across other mammals such as capybaras, tapirs, and deer.

Once at the hacienda, we'll refuel with a delicious lunch. Afterward, we'll take a short walk around the hacienda, and finally make our way back to Puerto Maldonado. We'll drop you off at your hotel around 3 pm.
