Venture into the Peruvian Rainforest
Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Isla de Monos
Your journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Puerto Maldonado, followed by a transfer to the banks of the Tambopata River. After two hours of travel, you will switch from a 4x4 vehicle to a boat that will transport you to your lodging for the first night.
Upon your arrival at the lodge, you'll settle in before gathering for lunch with your group. Later in the day, you'll embark on a visit to Isla Rolling, or Isla de los Monos. This center is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of endangered primate species, which are eventually returned to their natural environments.
During your time at the shelter, you'll have the chance to engage with the monkey species that reside on the island, gaining insight into their unique characteristics and the daily care they receive. You'll even have the opportunity to feed these charming creatures, creating lasting memories.
After exploring Isla de los Monos, you'll head back to your accommodation. As the evening progresses, you'll set out on a quest to spot white caymans along the Madre de Dios River. With a bit of luck, you might also catch a glimpse of the impressive capybara, the largest rodent in the world.
Conclude your day with dinner at the lodge before a restful night’s sleep.
Day 2: Lake Sandoval – Puerto Maldonado
Your day starts with breakfast at the lodge before you embark on a hike through the lush Tambopata jungle towards Lake Sandoval, a renowned spot within the reserve celebrated for its rich piranha habitat.
Once at the lake, you'll navigate its waters to discover the local flora and fauna. Throughout your boat ride, you'll have the opportunity to observe various wildlife, including herons, cormorants, pumas, monkeys, sloths, and giant nutria.
After the boat excursion, you’ll return to the lodge for lunch. Energized, you will depart for Puerto Maldonado, concluding the day’s activities around 5 pm.
Extended 3-Day Tour
If you wish to extend your adventure in the Peruvian rainforest, consider booking the 3-day tour option. This alternative includes a night hike on the second day, allowing you to delve deeper into the rich biodiversity of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal wildlife.
On the third day, an early morning visit to the Tambopata Canopy Walkway awaits, where you can marvel at the jungle from a stunning height of 30 meters, taking in breathtaking views of the Madre de Dios River. This is also an excellent opportunity to observe numerous bird species, including toucans, macaws, tangaras, and oropendolas.
After enjoying the canopy experience, you'll return to your lodge for breakfast. Once you've fueled up, you'll be transported back to Puerto Maldonado, concluding your tour around 9 am.
