Tambopata Parrot Clay Lick Tour: 6 Days

Day 1

Arrive at Puerto Maldonado airport and transfer to the river port to board a boat to your accommodation in the Tambopata jungle. After settling in, visit Cocococha Lagoon to explore the surroundings and spot various birds including fisher birds and hoatzins. Climb a 42-meter observation tower for views of monkeys and toucans. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 2

At dawn, visit the parrot clay lick of La Cachuela, followed by breakfast. At around 10:30 am, embark on a hiking route around the ecolodge to observe native birds such as tinamous, trogons and trumpet birds. After lunch, search for exotic birds along the Tambopata River including silver herons, eagles, hacks, and macaws. In the evening, observe nocturnal species like owls and hawks. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3

After breakfast, travel to another lodge in Tambopata. Spend the morning free to settle or engage in an optional activity. In the afternoon, participate in a two-hour hike in the La Torre area to observe forest birds. Return to the lodge around 7:30 pm for dinner and a nocturnal bird search, before retiring for the night.

Day 4

Depart early by boat to El Chuncho, one of the largest colpas in Tambopata, taking about four hours. Camp there for the day and watch native birds.

Day 5

Rise at 5 am to visit a macaw clay lick in El Chuncho for stunning views of these exotic birds. Afterward, return to the lodge for lunch and enjoy the rest of the afternoon free.

Day 6

After breakfast, transfer to Puerto Maldonado airport with ample time for your flight.

This tour includes 5 nights of accommodation in an ecolodge in Tambopata, with full board for all meals.
