Tambopata Parrot Clay Lick Experience: 6 Days
Day 1
Upon arriving at Puerto Maldonado airport, you will be transported to the town's river port, where a boat awaits to take you to your jungle lodge in Tambopata.
After getting settled, join us for an excursion to the Cocococha Lagoon. Spend the afternoon delving into the area while keeping an eye out for the rich birdlife. Expect to encounter fishing birds alongside exotic species like the hoatzin. We will also ascend a 42-meter high observation tower, an ideal vantage point for spotting monkeys and toucans.
The first day concludes as we return to the lodge for a relaxing dinner.
Day 2
We begin the day before dawn with a visit to the parrot clay lick of La Cachuela, returning to the lodge afterward for breakfast. At approximately 10:30 am, we will embark on a hiking route around the ecolodge, which offers a chance to witness native birds such as tinamous, trogons, and trumpet birds.
Post-lunch, the search for exotic birds continues along the banks of the Tambopata River, where we may spot silver herons, eagles, hawks, and macaws. As dusk approaches, the adventure continues with the chance to see nocturnal species like owls and hawks. We'll end the evening with dinner and relaxation at the lodge.
Day 3
After breakfast, we will pack our bags and travel to another lodge in the Tambopata area, allowing us to explore diverse environments within the reserve.
The remainder of the morning is yours to unwind or participate in an activity suggested by the guide. In the afternoon, we will undertake a two-hour hike in the La Torre area, searching for birds that inhabit the depths of the forest. By around 7:30 pm, we will return to the lodge for dinner, followed by a nocturnal birdwatching expedition before retiring for the night.
Day 4
We depart the lodge early in the morning, traveling by boat to El Chuncho, one of Tambopata's most significant colpas, or clay licks. The boat ride will take approximately four hours, after which we will camp and spend the day observing the local bird life until dinner.
Day 5
Awakening at dawn, we’ll set out at 5 am for the macaw clay lick in El Chuncho. Prepare to be amazed by the vibrant colors of these exotic birds!
After capturing photographs with the macaws, we will return to the lodge for lunch, leaving you with an entire afternoon free for personal activities.
Day 6
Following breakfast at the lodge, we will escort you back to the Puerto Maldonado airport with ample time to make your flight.
