Tambopata Parrot Clay Lick Tour: 6 Days

Day 1

From Puerto Maldonado airport, we will go to the river port to board a boat to our accommodation in the Tambopata jungle. After settling in, we will visit the Cocococha Lagoon to explore its surroundings and spot various bird species, including fisher birds and hoatzins. We will also visit a 42-meter high observation tower to see monkeys and toucans before returning to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 2

We will visit the parrot clay lick of La Cachuela at dawn and return for breakfast. At around 10:30 am, a hiking route around the ecolodge will follow, where we will see native birds such as tinamous and trogons. After lunch, we will look for birds along the Tambopata River, followed by nocturnal birdwatching before returning to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3

After breakfast, we will head to another lodge in Tambopata to explore different environments. You will have the morning free, with a two-hour hike in the La Torre area in the afternoon to observe forest birds. Dinner will be followed by a nocturnal birdwatching excursion.

Day 4

We will depart early by boat to El Chuncho, one of the largest clay licks in Tambopata, taking about four hours. We will camp there to spend the day birdwatching until dinner.

Day 5

We will arise at 5 am to visit a macaw clay lick in El Chuncho to witness the vibrant colors of the birds before returning to the lodge for lunch and free afternoon time.

Day 6

After breakfast, we'll take you to the Puerto Maldonado airport to ensure ample time for your departure flight.
