Tambopata Tour Package: 7 Days

Day 1

Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport, a transfer will take you to the river port for a canoe ride along the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers with a picnic on board. The sights will include local fauna in the Tambopata Nature Reserve, such as chestnut jacamars and black-crowned herons. The day concludes at the accommodation in Tambopata for six nights, followed by an evening walk to observe nocturnal animals.

Day 2

After breakfast, we will visit the Tambopata clay lick at sunrise to see a variety of Amazonian birds, particularly parrots and macaws. After lunch, we will take a short 20-minute walk to Laguna Chica to see different types of toucans. Return to the hotel for dinner and rest.

Day 3

Following breakfast, we will explore the Tambopata trail forests on a 6-kilometer (3 miles) trekking route to observe local birds like the semi-collared Bolio and the white-winged tanager. A picnic will be provided in nature before returning to the hotel at 4 pm for a free afternoon.

Day 4

Start with breakfast, then ascend the highest birding tower in the Amazon, at 46 meters (150 feet), for views of flying birds like turquoise tanagers and harpy eagles. After lunch, we will walk to Laguna Chica to spot unique birds including peacocks and yellow woodpeckers. Dinner at the lodge finishes the day.

Day 5

After an early breakfast, walk 5 kilometers (3 miles) to Lake Cocococha at dawn to see low-flying birds like red-bellied macaws. A picnic precedes the return to the hotel by 4 pm. Dinner will be followed by an optional night canoe trip to see Tambopata alligators.

Day 6

Dedicate this day to exploring other areas of the trail that remain unvisited during the tour for additional birdwatching opportunities.

Day 7

After breakfast at the hotel, a transfer will take you to the Puerto Maldonado airport with ample time for your flight.
