Tambopata Tour Package: 7 Days

Day 1

Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport, transfer to the river port for a canoe ride along the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers, enjoying a picnic and observing local fauna in the Tambopata Nature Reserve. Accommodation in Tambopata for the next 6 nights. Evening walk to see nocturnal animals.

Day 2

Early breakfast followed by a visit to the Tambopata clay lick to observe exotic Amazonian birds, particularly parrots and macaws. Return for lunch, then a 20-minute walk to Laguna Chica to see various toucans. Dinner and rest at the hotel.

Day 3

Explore the Tambopata trail forests on a 6-kilometre (3 miles) trek to observe local birds, including the semi-collared Bolio and white-winged tanager. Picnic in nature before continuing to see the red-billed tanager and red-billed toucan. Return to the hotel by 4 pm and free time for the rest of the day.

Day 4

Climb to the highest birding tower in the Amazon at 46 metres (150 feet) for views of the Tambopata Reserve, spotting turquoise tanagers and harpy eagles. After lunch, visit Laguna Chica to see peacocks and yellow woodpeckers. Dinner at the lodge.

Day 5

Early breakfast and a 5-kilometre (3 miles) walk to Lake Cocococha at dawn to spot low-flying birds. Picnic before returning to the hotel by 4 pm. Optional night canoe trip to search for Tambopata alligators.

Day 6

Entire day dedicated to exploring other trail areas for more birdwatching opportunities.

Day 7

After breakfast, transfer back to Puerto Maldonado airport with ample time for your flight.
