Day 1

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from Puerto Maldonado airport, followed by a journey to the river port where you will embark on a canoe ride along the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers. While enjoying a picnic on board, you will have the opportunity to observe local wildlife, including species such as the chestnut jacamar and black-crowned herons, throughout the Tambopata Nature Reserve.

Upon arrival at your accommodation in Tambopata, where you will be staying for the next six nights, the afternoon is yours to relax. As dusk approaches, join us for an evening stroll to catch a glimpse of the nocturnal wildlife.

The first day concludes with dinner and a restful night at the lodge.

Day 2

Start your day with an early breakfast, then set sail to the Tambopata clay lick, where you will witness a dazzling assortment of Amazonian birds, particularly various parrots and macaws.

After this birdwatching experience, return to the lodge for lunch. Next, embark on a short 20-minute walk to Laguna Chica, where an array of toucans, each showcasing vibrant beak colors, await your discovery.

Your day wraps up back at the lodge for dinner and a peaceful evening in preparation for the adventures ahead.

Day 3

Post-breakfast, we'll venture into the Tambopata trail forests on a 6-kilometer (3-mile) hiking expedition. This trek offers a glimpse into the natural habitat of many local bird species, including the semi-collared Bolio and the white-winged tanager.

During our journey, a picnic amidst nature will be enjoyed, followed by continued exploration where you may encounter the vibrant red-billed tanager and the striking red-billed toucan. We anticipate returning to the lodge by 4 pm, allowing you the rest of the afternoon to unwind or explore the nearby area.

Day 4

Don't miss a hearty breakfast on this day, as we will ascend to the tallest birdwatching platform in the Amazon. At a height of 46 meters (150 feet), you'll enjoy unparalleled views of the Tambopata Reserve, observing turquoise tanagers, harpy eagles, and numerous other native birds soaring over the lush jungle.

After lunch at the lodge, continue your journey to Laguna Chica to search for distinctive birds, including peacocks and yellow woodpeckers. As the day concludes, a delectable dinner at the Tambopata lodge is planned.

Day 5

Following an early breakfast, we’ll set off on a 5-kilometer (3-mile) trek towards Lake Cocococha, arriving at dawn to maximize birdwatching opportunities. Expect to spot low-flying birds such as red-bellied macaws, long-billed tropicbirds, and curious kingfishers.

A picnic will be scheduled before we return to the lodge, aiming for a 4 pm arrival. Post-dinner, those interested can join a unique night canoe excursion to search for the elusive Tambopata alligators.

Day 6

The sixth day is dedicated to exploring alternative trails that have yet to be covered during the tour, providing another chance to encounter the exotic birdlife of Tambopata!

Day 7

After enjoying your final breakfast at the lodge, we’ll escort you back to Puerto Maldonado airport, allowing ample time for your departure flight.

This tour encompasses 6 nights of accommodation at the selected Explorer's Inn Tambopata Ecolodge. Guests will enjoy a full board service, with all meals—breakfasts, lunches, and dinners—provided throughout your stay.
