Valley of the Temples + Roman Villa of Casale Day Trip
Meet at the Taormina bus station to start the day trip to the Valley of the Temples and the Roman Villa of Casale, focused on history.
The first stop is in Agrigento, home to the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Visitors will see landmarks including the Temple of Juno, the Temple of Concordia with remains of a paleochristian necropolis, the Temple of Heracles, and the ruins of the Temple of Zeus. The Temples of Castor and Pollux will also be admired.
Participants will have an hour of free time for lunch at local restaurants before continuing to Piazza Armerina and the Roman Villa of Casale.
This site reveals the lavish lifestyle of ancient Roman villas, excavated mainly in the 1950s by Gino Vinicio Gentili. The villa suffered damage from the Normans and a mudslide. Visitors will view vibrant mosaics, including a notable one depicting women in disc throwing and lifting weights.
After 12 hours of exploring the Valley of the Temples and the Roman Villa of Casale, the trip concludes at the meeting point.
