Taranto Private Tour

At the selected time, your guide will be waiting for you in Piazza Castello, the location of most main monuments of Taranto. The city, nicknamed the City of Two Seas, is situated between the Mar Piccolo and Mar Grande. Discover the history of this ancient Greek colony founded by the Spartans.

The tour begins with the Doric columns of the Temple of Poseidon, dating back to the 6th century BC and recognized as the oldest temple in Magna Graecia. Next, visit the Castello Aragonese, also known as Castel Sant'Angelo, a fortress from the Byzantine era, currently housing the Navy.

Nearby, cross the famous swing bridge of Taranto, an emblem of the city that connects the island of Borgo Antico with the peninsula of Borgo Nuovo. This engineering feat, inaugurated in 1887, spans the navigable canal linking the Mar Grande and Mar Piccolo.

Proceed to the Cathedral of San Cataldo, constructed in the second half of the 10th century by the Byzantines. Note its Baroque façade from the 1700s before entering to view the precious mosaic floor and the Chapel of San Cataldo.

After two hours spent discovering the city's monumental heritage, the private tour of Taranto will conclude.
