Tarija City Exploration

Our adventure begins at the scheduled time, as we pick you up from your accommodation to embark on a journey that unveils Tarija's iconic landmarks while transporting you back to an age of ancient civilization.

Welcome to one of the historical gems of southern Bolivia!

Our first stop will be Luis de Fuentes Square, where we will guide you through the 16th-century history of Tarija. This site was established under the orders of the viceroy of Peru, who tasked Captain Luis de Fuentes y Vargas with the fortification against the Chiriguano indigenous people. Yet, the history of Tarija goes back even further. Did you know that before the Incan empire, indigenous tribes like the Moyos Moyos, JuJuyes, and Juríes resided here?

Continuing our historical journey, we will stroll towards the Cathedral of San Bernado, built by Jesuit missionaries.

Next, we will explore the Casa Dorada, an iconic structure showcasing art nouveau architecture, which serves as the residence of Tarija's Casa de la Cultura. Shortly thereafter, we'll make our way to the church of San Francisco. Established in 1606, this is among the city's oldest landmarks and houses a library boasting over 1500 significant historical works.

Our next destination will be the Paleontological Museum of Tarija, where colossal fossils of dinosaurs and mammals are preserved. Here, we will navigate through the impressive exhibits to view fossils of dinosaurs, mammals, sloths, and armadillos, including a massive mammoth!

As the tour comes to a close, we will take a moment to visit the New Central Market. After around 4 to 5 hours of exploration, we will return you to your hotel in Tarija.
