Join us on an excursion to the Huayllay National Sanctuary, where you'll explore one of Peru's key protected nature reserves. Discover the renowned stone forest!
Description
We will gather at the Plaza de Armas in Tarma to commence our day trip to the Huayllay National Sanctuary, situated within the stunning Bombon Plateau.
During our voyage, you will be captivated by the stunning landscapes of the Bombon Plateau, where we will encounter vibrant flower fields, the expansive Pampas of Junin, and the Historical Sanctuary of Chacamarca. This sanctuary memorializes the brave individuals who fell in the Battle of Junin, a significant milestone in Peru's quest for independence.
As our journey progresses, after passing through the towns of Junín, Parí, and San Juan de Ondores, we will arrive at the picturesque Chinchaycocha Lake. This lake stands as the second largest in Peru, where we will take a moment to appreciate the serene beauty from a designated viewpoint before continuing our expedition to the Huayllay National Sanctuary.
Among the key attractions in this national sanctuary is the remarkable Huayllay Stone Forest, home to more than 480 unique rock formations. During our exploration, we will trek through this fascinating landscape, highlighting the remarkable shapes that some of the formations share with animals and human figures.
Our final destination will be the charming village of Carhuamayo, where we will visit the Maca Monument. Following this visit, we will return to Tarma.
After approximately 13 hours since pickup, we will conclude our exciting day trip, bringing you back to the original meeting point.
