Borjomi & Vardzia Day Trip

Explore two of Georgia's most iconic and picturesque sites on this day trip. Join us as we uncover the stunning Vardzia monastery caves and the delightful town of Borjomi.

Day Trip Overview

We will convene on Kote Abkhazi Street in Tbilisi at the scheduled time and board our bus for a journey westward toward the Vardzia Monastery, which lasts about three hours.

This remarkable site, located in Ajaltsije, will astonish you with its unique blend of cultures. Covering an expanse of seven hectares, it includes a church, mosque, and synagogue.

After spending an hour exploring the area, we’ll hop back on the bus and make our way to Vardzia. Upon arrival, you’ll be mesmerized by the vast caves that constitute this sacred site. Built with significant defensive features due to its proximity to Turkey, we will spend approximately one and a half hours traversing the complex, uncovering its hidden treasures, and admiring the exquisite frescoes adorning the church.

En route to our next destination, we will take a break for lunch in a quaint village.

Subsequently, we will enter the scenic landscapes of the Borjomi Nature Reserve. This exploration will reveal the reasons why the waters from its springs are treasured, and you will even have the opportunity to sample them! Additionally, we’ll stroll through the charming streets of this small town and view the summer palace of the Romanovs.

The tour is expected to conclude around 10 PM back at our starting point in Tbilisi.

Important Information

For entry into the sacred sites, women are required to cover their hair, so it’s advisable to bring along a scarf or shawl.

Moreover, visiting Vardzia necessitates an average level of physical fitness, as the route may present some challenges.
