On this day trip to Katskhi Pillar, Chiatura, and Mghvimevi monastery, we will explore the cultural aspects of Georgia, focusing on its Soviet past.

Description

At the appointed time, we will meet at the Traveler’s Meeting Point in Tbilisi to begin our tour of notable Soviet architecture in Georgia, including Katskhi Pillar, Chiatura, and Mghvimevi monastery.

Our first destination will be Chiatura, known for its Soviet-era cable car network, popular among artists and photographers. Historically, this town was a major center for manganese production in the Caucasus.

Next, we head to Mghvimevi monastery, which is built into a cliff. We will ascend the stairs to the entrance and view its exquisite stone carvings and relics, as well as enjoy a panoramic view of Chiatura.

Following the monastery visit, you will have 1 hour of free time to have lunch at a Chiatura restaurant. Afterward, we will proceed to Katskhi Pillar, the site of an Orthodox monastery perched on a limestone monolith, originally constructed between the 6th and 8th centuries.

Additionally, we will experience a ride on one of Chiatura's famous cable cars to the Pioneers Palace, offering stunning views.

Ultimately, we will return to Tbilisi to conclude the tour after 12 hours of travel.
