Katskhi Pillar, Chiatura & Mghvimevi Monastery Day Trip

On this day trip to Katskhi Pillar, Chiatura, and Mghvimevi monastery, participants will explore Georgian culture and its Soviet past.

Description

At the designated time, meeting will occur at the Traveler’s Meeting Point in Tbilisi to start the tour, which will feature notable examples of Soviet architecture, including Katskhi Pillar, Chiatura, and Mghvimevi monastery.

The first stop will be Chiatura, known for its cable car network from the Soviet era, which attracts both artists and photographers. The town was historically significant as a major manganese production center in the Caucasus.

Next, the tour will proceed to Mghvimevi monastery, which is built into a cliffside. After ascending the stairs to the entrance, visitors will observe stone carvings and relics inside, as well as enjoy views of Chiatura.

Participants will then have 1 hour of free time for lunch at a Chiatura restaurant. Following lunch, the tour will continue to the Katskhi Pillar, an elevated church accessed by monks. Information will be provided about the limestone monolith and the Orthodox monastery established there between the 6th and 8th centuries.

As part of the experience, guests will ride one of the city's historic cable cars to the Pioneers Palace, enjoying stunning views along the route.

Finally, the tour will return to Tbilisi, concluding after 12 hours of travel.
