On this day trip to Katskhi Pillar, Chiatura, and Mghvimevi monastery, we'll explore Georgia's culture and Soviet history.

Description

At the designated time, we will meet at the Traveler’s Meeting Point in Tbilisi to start our tour of the best examples of Soviet architecture in Georgia, including Katskhi Pillar, Chiatura, and Mghvimevi monastery.

Our first stop will be Chiatura, known for its extensive Soviet-era cable car network, popular with artists and photographers. This city was also once one of the largest manganese production centres in the Caucasus.

Next, we'll visit Mghvimevi monastery, constructed into a cliff. We will climb the stairs to its entrance and view the stone carvings and relics, alongside stunning views of Chiatura.

After Mghvimevi, you will have 1 hour of free time for lunch in Chiatura. Following lunch, we will proceed to Katskhi Pillar, which features an elevated church accessed by monks. We will share insights on this limestone monolith and its Orthodox monastery established between the 6th and 8th centuries.

We will also ride one of Chiatura's famous cable cars to the Pioneers Palace, offering remarkable views. Finally, we will return to Tbilisi after a total of 12 hours of travel.
