On this day trip to Katskhi Pillar, Chiatura, and Mghvimevi monastery, we will explore Georgia's culture and Soviet past.

Description

We will meet at the Traveler’s Meeting Point in Tbilisi to start our tour focusing on examples of Soviet architecture, including Katskhi Pillar, Chiatura, and Mghvimevi monastery.

Our first stop will be in Chiatura, known for its Soviet-era cable car network, popular among artists and photographers. This town was once a major manganese production center in the Caucasus.

Next, we will head to Mghvimevi monastery, which is built into a cliff. We will climb the stairs to the entrance to observe the stone carvings and relics, as well as enjoy the view of Chiatura.

After visiting Mghvimevi, you will have 1 hour of free time for lunch at a Chiatura restaurant. Afterward, we will continue to Katskhi Pillar, featuring an elevated church accessible to monks. We will discuss the limestone monolith and the Orthodox monastery established between the 6th and 8th centuries.

We will also experience a ride on one of Chiatura's famous cable cars to the Pioneers Palace, enjoying scenic views during the journey.

Finally, we will return to Tbilisi to conclude the activity after 12 hours of travel.
