Excursion to Chaves
We will commence the trip from your hotel in Montalegre at the designated time, embarking towards Chaves either in a minibus or a 4x4 vehicle. The drive will take approximately 45 minutes.
Upon arrival, our first stop will be the magnificent medieval castle of Chaves. This fortress, which now serves as a military museum, has borne witness to the many conflicts between Portugal and Spain.
Next, we will admire the facades of the ancient forts, São Francisco and São Neutel, constructed in the 17th century to protect the city from invaders. Following this, prepare to be captivated by the stunning Roman bridge spanning the Tâmega River, commissioned by Trajan, the first Hispanic emperor, with its arches remarkably preserved since Roman times!
Continuing our journey, we will explore the renowned Estrada Nacional 2 and discover its Kilometre 0. Shortly afterward, we’ll visit the ancient Roman thermal baths, which were once a hub for social gatherings. Did you know that the healing waters here rank among the warmest in Europe?
After approximately three hours of exploring, we will head back to Montalegre and return you to your accommodation.
