Chaves Day Trip

On this day trip, you will explore the Portuguese city of Chaves and learn about its history and monuments. The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Montalegre.

The journey to Chaves will take approximately 45 minutes via 4x4 or minibus. Upon arrival, the first stop will be the exterior of the medieval castle of Chaves, which currently houses a military museum and has been pivotal during the conflicts between Spain and Portugal.

The tour continues with a visit to the facades of the São Francisco and São Neutel forts, built in the 17th century for city defense. Next, you will see the Roman bridge over the Tâmega River, constructed under the direction of Trajan, the first Hispanic emperor, with its arches dating back to Roman times.

Following this, the itinerary includes a stop at Estrada Nacional 2 and its Kilometre 0, before heading to the Roman thermal baths, renowned for having some of the warmest medicinal waters in Europe.

After approximately 3 hours, the tour will conclude with a return to Montalegre to drop you off at your hotel.
