Chaves Day Trip
On this day trip, you will visit the Portuguese city of Chaves, exploring its notable monuments and learning about its history.
At the scheduled time, pickup will be from your hotel in Montalegre, and you will travel to Chaves via 4x4 or minibus, which will take approximately 45 minutes.
Upon arrival, you will visit the exterior of the medieval castle of Chaves, which houses a military museum and has witnessed conflicts between Spain and Portugal.
The itinerary includes visits to the facades of the forts of São Francisco and São Neutel, 17th-century structures designed to protect the city from the Spanish. Following that, you will see the Roman bridge over the Tâmega River, constructed under Trajan, with its arches remaining from Roman times.
Next, the tour will proceed to Estrada Nacional 2 and its Kilometre 0, before heading to the Roman thermal baths, which were significant social gathering spots of the time, known for having some of the warmest medicinal waters in Europe.
After 3 hours on the road, you will return to Montalegre and be dropped off at your hotel.
