Greek History: A Tour of Ancient Macedonia
Meet us in Salonica at your chosen meeting point to start our day trip through Ancient Macedonia as we visit various archaeological sites in Greece.
Our first stop is the Pella archaeological site, the birthplace of Alexander the Great. We will explore the 2,500 square meters of archaeological grounds, including the symposium halls and mosaic floors from the 4th century, depicting scenes of gods and heroes. A knowledgeable guide will provide insights into this significant historic capital of Macedonia.
We will then head to Edessa, meaning "tower in the water." Here, we will visit the Karano waterfall, Greece's largest at 70 meters (229 feet), and stroll by picturesque bridges and natural parks.
You'll have 1.5 hours of free time for lunch at local restaurants. Afterward, we’ll continue to Naousa to explore local wine tourism.
At a winery, we will receive an informative tour and learn about the xinomavro wine-making process. The visit concludes with a wine tasting paired with aperitifs, wrapping up our day before returning to Salonica after approximately 9.5 hours.
