Greek History: A Tour of Ancient Macedonia
Join us in Salonica at your selected meeting point to start a day trip through Ancient Macedonia, visiting various archaeological sites. Our first stop is the Pella archaeological site, known as the birthplace of Alexander the Great. We will explore the 2,500 square meters of archaeological grounds, including symposium halls and mosaic floors from the 4th century depicting scenes from Greek mythology.
Next, we head to Edessa, translated from Greek as "tower in the water," to see the Karano waterfall, the largest in Greece, with a drop of 70 meters (229 feet). The tour will include a walk along riverbanks and through local parks.
You will have 1.5 hours of free time for lunch at local restaurants before proceeding to Naousa, where you will learn about wine tourism. The visit includes a winery tour with an explanation of the xinomavro wine-making process and a wine tasting accompanied by aperitifs. We'll return to the meeting point in Salonica after approximately 9.5 hours.
