Come and discover one of Greece's hidden gems on this excursion to Meteora by train and marvel at its monasteries and landscapes.
Meteora Tour by Train
Your train will depart from Thessaloniki Station towards Kalambaka at the indicated time. Upon arrival at Kalambaka Station, an English-speaking driver will take you to the Meteora Monasteries, located 20 minutes away. During the drive, the driver will explain the origin and history of this monastic complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
At the Meteora Mountains, you'll have four hours to visit the monasteries: Great Meteoron, St. Nikolaos, Holy Trinity, St. Stephen, Varlaam, and Roussanou. Each monastery has its own history and unique works of art. You'll admire the exterior of all of them and visit the interior of one or two monasteries.
After the visit, the driver will return you to Kalambaka train station, where you can rest until your return train departs. Finally, you'll arrive back at Thessaloniki Station after your day exploring one of Greece's beautiful locations.
Visiting the Monasteries
Some monasteries will be closed to the public, except on Saturdays and Sundays when they are all open. The Great Meteor Monastery is closed on Tuesdays.
